Her early oil paintings were Landscape and Still Life. She then developed a
love of drawing and painting the human form on paper, which opened up the world
of watercolour and mixed media, all the while continuing with her landscape
work. She also travelled around Ireland, Europe and America sketching and photographing
images that would later inform the work. The west coast of America in particular
inspired the brighter palette. These trips would mark the beginning of a new
phase in her work. The photographs, sketches and watercolours would be taken
back to the studio and developed. She took a similar approach on a trip to India
in 2003. Once again, the colour took another turn following this sojourn.
Using bright reds, oranges and yellows she hoped to mirror the landscape around
her. Although the landscape is an influence, there is always "a feeling
of the need to go beyond the literal to a deeper level of understanding and
expression". It is now becoming clear that musical structure and rhythm
still have a part to play and influence the movement that appears in her work.
